Not so fast, my friend
Needless to say when I read an article in today’s New York Times about TiVo including recommendations from Chicago Tribune TV critic Maureen Ryan, I was excited.
I regularly read Ryan’s blog on the Tribune website and think (after the Washington Post’s Lisa de Moraes) she’s one of the best in the business.
So imagine my dismay when I get to the seventh graf of the story and happen on this little ditty:
“The recommendation service will be available only to the roughly 100,000 TiVo subscribers in the region surrounding Chicago.”
I’m still trying to figure out what this was doing buried so deep in the story, especially since the story was written by a Times staffer. This fact is far more important to the reader than the statistic above that says one in four households has a DVR and some quote from some market analyst who has no direct bearing on the story.
One of the first rules in newswriting: DON’T BURY THE LEAD!
